Upper Back, Shoulder, Neck, & Arm Pain Relief

The upper back, shoulder, neck, and arm are connected via muscles crossing joints, fascia tissue, and nerve branches.

Restrictions in these tissues can pull the upper body out of balance, resulting in pain, tender points, soreness, tingling, or numbness.

Causes of upper back and body pain

  • Working at a computer

  • Long distance driving

  • Manual labor

  • Car accident

  • Sprain or strain

  • Scar tissue from surgery or injury

  • Nerve entrapment

  • Jaw or fist clenching

  • Tongue tension

  • Overuse of movements or postures

Massage for Upper Body Pain Relief

Face, scalp, ears - massaging the scalp and ears can release tension in the neck and relax the whole body.

Neck - each side of the neck has muscles connecting the skull and cervical spine to the collar bone, shoulder blade, and ribs; even our tongue is connected to our shoulder blades.

Shoulders, armpits - muscles that move the shoulder cross at the armpit, such as pectoral major, the latissimus dorsi, and rotator cuff muscles.  If you have shoulder and neck pain, you must try having your armpits massaged!

Upper arms, forearms, hands - hand tension can create tension up the arm and into the back and neck.
